Philadelphia native ryan downie had a revelation on the beach one dewy morning just before sunrise. His brain was in constant motion which was typical. Words and thoughts danced around in his head. For as long as he could remember this is how his brain operated and didn’t know how to communicate all of this. That morning, he photographed the sun peeking over the horizon and the waves created a cadence of crisp but gentle white noise. The lifeguard stand seemed lonely and cast a weak shadow onto the sand.
Ryan’s world stopped for a moment– everything froze and he figured it out. Not the meaning of life, relax. But he could explain himself, finally, only not through words. Photographs became a mode of communication for him and this knowledge calmed his restless mind. To share the revelation with others, he joined forces with his favorite person on the planet, also his business partner. Together they created sauce photography. Their hopes are that his ah-ha moment story about finding a voice through photography can help somebody in a similar predicament.
Ryan’s work recently garnered more interest and connected to new audiences which increased business. A top priority for sauce photography is to grow the brand presence but maintain its organic roots. The current portfolio exemplifies an overarching theme as its filled with complex angles and vivid edges which gently contrast the blurred undertones of Philadelphia, an often overlooked, yet extraordinary place. The sauce vision is to lend ryan’s voice to the ever-inspiring, culturally rich city, share it all with you and have some fun while doing it.
Ryan and annie both work in sales and she is currently working on her executive mba. Their number 1 though, is teaming up as parents to a beautiful, blended herd of four under 9* which in short, means they haven’t sat down in a few years. (job responsibilities include but are not limited to: chauffeuring, carpooling, finagling, refereeing, lecturing, teaching, coaching, cooking for, feeding, cleaning up after, and of course, continuing to master the art of loving them to death.)
[bonus points for the sauce photography owners if they make it through most days without a grown up head explosion or a sudden decision to take an adults only trip to the Mediterranean. Then leaving for said adults only trip]
##full disclosure/background info/sidebar: ryan asked annie to be his wife about five-ish minutes after the philadelphia eagles won the super bowl on february 4th, 2017. If you know her at all then you grasp the depth of this. [fun fact: single best day of her life but please don’t share this with the kids slash they already know.] the duo resides outside of philly with aforementioned herd of pint-size humans and a brian dawkins autographed football. Obviously.
